Brownfield sites “means abandoned, vacant, derelict or under-utilized commercial or industrial sites that may be contaminated” per Provincial Planning Regulation, Man Reg 81/2011, Schedule, Part I. Brownfield sites may be favoured for development to promote remediation, especially through conversion to residential uses, though policies tend not to authorize uses that are not otherwise supported by an Official Plan.
