North American Free Trade Agreement of 1992, between Canada, Mexico, and the United States. Chapter 17 obliges the parties to maintain high levels of intellectual property protection. Canada implemented this treaty through the North American Free Trade Agreement Implementation Act, S.C. 1993, c. 44, mostly effective from 1 January 1994, which made substantial changes to all intellectual property legislation.
