The American investigative agency that deals with civil transportation accidents. Although well known for its investigations into aircraft crashes, the NTSB is responsible for all civilian accident investigations that warrant federal review. As a result, it also investigates train, shipping, and even motor vehicle accidents, where appropriate, and makes recommendations. Although the industry is not required to adopt such recommendations, the failure by manufacturers to adopt them may increase civil liability in the future.
