Public purpose

Use (of land) for recreational or other use or enjoyment of the general public such as access to water, a beach, a conservation area, a community hall, a public library, open space, and so on; see New Brunswick Community Planning Act, RSNB 1973, c C-12, s 1; the idea does not tend to extend to private profit, although in the United States this point has become blurred.
