Rome Convention for the Protection of Performers, Producers of Phonograms and Broadcasting Organisations of 1961. This treaty protects performers, record producers, and broadcasters through droits voisins ("neighbouring rights") similar to traditional copyright. The Act to Amend the Copyright Act of 1997 implemented these rights in Canada and enabled Canada to adhere to Rome as of 4 June 1998. About fifty states presently adhere to this Convention, though the United States is notably absent. Rome may be partly eclipsed by the WIPO Performances and Phonograms Treaty.
