The residue of royal power once exercised directly by the Crown, and now, by constitutional convention, exercised either directly by Cabinet or the prime minister, or by the Crown at the behest of the prime minister or Cabinet.

The residual power of the Crown to act without statutory authority. Foreign affairs and treaty-making are prerogative powers.
