A term that has no precise legal meaning used to refer to a wide variety of relationships involving more or less legal formality and greater and lesser degrees of working together among the alliance participants. A joint venture or partnership may be referred to as a strategic alliance. The term may also be used to describe, for example, an agreement to do research and development together, to market products jointly, or simply to share information.
