Alexander Simpson

Alexander Simpson, BMedSci, MBChB, FRANZCP, is currently an associate professor and the head of the division of forensic psychiatry in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto, and is chief of forensic psychiatry at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) in Toronto. Prior to coming to CAMH, Dr. Simpson served as the clinical director of the Auckland Regional Forensic Psychiatry Service in Auckland, New Zealand. He was an honorary clinical associate professor at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. Dr. Simpson has spent over twenty years helping to develop systems of care in forensic mental health. His key accomplishments include developing the comprehensive models of forensic mental health service using both recovery-based and culture-based approaches. The published outcomes from the Auckland service are among the best in the field. He has long provided advice to government agencies and the judiciary, in both New Zealand and Canada.
