Derek Eaves

Derek Eaves is a forensic psychiatrist in Vancouver. He graduated from Liverpool University and did specialty training in England, but has worked mostly in Canada. He was executive director of British Columbia’s Forensic Psychiatric Services Commission for many years, then vice-president of the Department of Medicine and Research at Riverview Hospital. He was a founding member of the Mental Health Law and Policy Institute at Simon Fraser University, and, with colleagues there, contributed to the development of various risk assessment measures, notably the HCR-20 and SARA. He was the founding president of the International Association of Forensic Mental Health. He has authored and co-authored two books, several monographs, and numerous papers on forensic psychiatric services, risk assessment, and related topics.
