Kate Dewhirst

Kate Dewhirst, BA (Hons), LLB, MHSA, is a founding partner with Dykeman Dewhirst O’Brien LLP, a boutique health law firm in Toronto. She focuses on four areas: privacy, confidentiality, health records, and freedom of information requests; difficult clinical scenarios; physician (professional staff) relationships with hospitals; and family health teams. Ms. Dewhirst was corporate counsel to the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health from 2003 to 2008. She sits on the advisory board of and teaches in the Osgoode Law School Professional Development certificate programs in mental health and health law and teaches the Osgoode LLM course on mental health law (with her law partner, Mary Jane Dykeman). She and Ms. Dykeman are also editors-in-chief of Risk Management in Canadian Health Care (LexisNexis). Ms. Dewhirst is also a board member of Workman Arts (a community agency for artists with histories of mental illness or addiction issues).
