Smita Vir Tyagi

Smita Vir Tyagi, PhD, CPsych, is a clinical and forensic psychologist who has worked in both federal and provincial corrections in Canada. She is currently a staff psychologist with the Ontario Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services at a prison for men in the Greater Toronto Area. She has over twenty years’ experience in sexual assault, sexual offending, domestic violence, and women’s issues. Her work as a prison psychologist involves: assessment; individual and group therapy with sexual offenders, violent offenders, and offenders with addictions and mental health problems; and training and support to correctional line staff. She has also been teaching courses in criminal justice in the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology at Ryerson University for the past eight years. Dr. Tyagi works as a consultant and has extensive experience in program development. She has provided supervision, research, and training to community agencies in mental health and counselling. She consults widely on domestic violence, program development, and gender issues.
