The chief minister of the Crown who is asked by the governor general to form a government or Cabinet. The prime minister is selected by the governor general, and he or she must be the leader of the political party that is able to control a majority in the House of Commons. Among the most important powers of the prime minister is the right to advise the governor general as to whom to summon or dismiss as ministers, and the right to advise the governor general to call a general election.
