Brian F. Hoffman

Brian F. Hoffman, MD, FRCPC, is the medical director of the Mental Health and Justice Program and past chief of psychiatry at North York General Hospital. He is an associate professor of psychiatry at the University of Toronto. He has received teaching awards from the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto and the American Psychiatric Association, as well as a public service award from the Canadian Mental Health Association. In April 2007, he was elected a life member of the Ontario Medical Association for outstanding contributions to the Association, medical science, or the common good. Dr. Hoffman has made over 150 presentations to professional audiences, and written sixty articles in journals and six chapters in books on psychiatry and the law. He has published two books with Butterworths, including The Emotional Consequences of Personal Injury: A Handbook for Mental Health Professionals and Lawyers (2d ed., with Joel Rochon, John Terry, and Annelis Thorsen, 2001), and The Law of Consent to Treatment in Ontario (2d ed., 1997).
