R.J. O’Shaughnessy

R.J. O’Shaughnessy is a clinical professor with the Department of Psychiatry at the University of British Columbia (UBC), and since 1986 has been the head of the forensic program at UBC. Dr. O’Shaughnessy has worked in clinical and teaching roles in forensic psychiatry since 1981, when he was appointed the clinical director of Youth Forensic Psychiatric Services with the Province of British Columbia, a position he held until 2005. Since then, he has been the co-director of the Medical-Legal Clinic at St. Paul’s Hospital. He has had a private forensic consulting practice since 1981. Dr. O’Shaughnessy has been active in academic and medical organizations, including in the American Academy of Psychiatry and Law as president, the BC Psychiatry Association as president, and in the Canadian Academy of Psychiatry and Law.
